Frequently Asked Questions

Getting to know Roxanne, her philosophies, and service offerings at Sentient Healing.

General Questions

What does Sentient mean?

The word ‘sentient’ means the ability to perceive or feel things. My overall purpose with all service offerings is to provide therapeutic stress reduction and nervous system regulation so you can cope with life better. Becoming more present with your body and mind can give you the kind of emotional or mental freedom people seek through spirituality practices. If you’re not happy where you are then learning how to implement the pragmatic tools I’ve diligently spent the last 10 years learning may just be what you need to increase your body-mind connection and succeed at life.

What are your office hours?

Sundays 12pm-8pm
Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays 10am-8pm

If you have a last-minute emergency outside of office hours you are welcome to call or text but there is no guarantee I will be availble to see you.

What are your rates and what types of payments do you accept?

All services are $90 per hour and require a card on file before scheduling. Cards are processed through Square. When scheduling online, a deposit is required with a card. The remaining balance can be paid with cash, card, or check.

Why do I need to pay a deposit when scheduling online?

There is a 24-hour cancelation policy. All last-minute or no-show sessions are charged full price. Having a card on file for all clients is the best way to prevent no-shows and having a deposit ensures the clients coming to see me are congruent with their bodywork intentions.

What is the best way to contact you if I have questions, or need to reschedule a session?

Text is always the best way to reach me. If you already have an appointment and would like to reschedule or cancel, texting as soon as you know your schedule has changed increases the likelihood that you will get an appointment time that can better meet your needs.

If you would like to schedule a Hypnotherapy discovery call or if you have general questions not answered on this page then email is sufficient. I will get back to you within 5 business days.

Do you do mobile massage, or events?

Sometimes! Email is the best way to reach out to see if I would be a good fit for the project you have in mind.

Where is your office located?

3005 47th Street, Suite F4, 80301

My building is furthest to the left when facing all the buildings from the Parking lot. 3005 is also the only building with an entrance that does not face the parking lot so it is not immediately obvious. Don't panic, you are in the right location. :) All the numbers on each of the buildings ascend from left to right. The building furthest to the right is the Boulder Dental office. Feel free to park anywhere. There is free parking that is covered, and uncovered as well as a parking garage directly below my building.

I found your building but the door is locked. What do I do?

The main entrance doors automatically lock at 6pm on weekdays and are locked on weekends. If the door is locked and you do not see me lurking by the entrance waiting for you, just text my business number (720-541-9403) and I will come down to let you in.

I'm trying to schedule a session online but my card isn't processing, what do I do?

There could be two things happening.

1. I don't take last minute sessions online sooner than three hours of the time booking. I often do two hour sessions and need at least three hours notice to be prepared and ready for you. Try a later time or day to schedule online, or text me to see if I am still available.

2. You are trying to schedule outside the three hour window but your card will not process. Wix has advised me to inform clients that their cookies may need to be cleared. Try that, and then text me if there are still issues and I can add you in the system manually. Please note a deposit will be required for all new clients.

Neuromuscular Therapy

What is Neuromuscular Therapy?

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a whole-body integrative approach to deep-tissue bodywork. It focuses on postural alignment to correct compensation patterns caused by bad posture habits, overuse, trauma, or injury. NMT assists with releasing stuck fascia and connective tissues, and assists with resetting your nervous system in a way that allows you to be more connected and aware of your body.

Since all sessions with Roxanne are focused on releasing stuck tissues nearly all the techniques used are done while the client is face up. This allows gravity to assist and  the muscles to fully release for optimal results.

What are the benefits of Neuromuscular Therapy?

Anyone who has a body can benefit from this type of work. I have worked with people from all walks of life and all ages. Below are only some of the benefits:

Increased circulation

Increase joint mobility

Increase immune system function

Reduce postsurgery adhesions, swelling, and scar tissue

Faster post-workout recovery, improved performance, and range of motion

Reduce Stress by enhancing sleep quality

Reduce fatigue and chronic pain

Decreased anxiety and depression

Does Neuromuscular Therapy Hurt?

There can sometimes be a level of intensity or discomfort associated with releasing stuck tissues, and NMT can also be relaxing. It just depends on how long your tissues have been stuck or injured. I combine energy work with every session when needed as a way of coaxing out the stuckness. Overall, the best thing to do when it gets intense is to breathe and try to keep the area as relaxed as possible. Tensing up or holding your breath actually increases the pain and reduces the effectiveness of the techniques. The first 3-5 sessions are often the most intense, and it is important to arrive well hydrated and continue staying hydrated after the session. I do also often have clients fall asleep on the table.

Are there any medical conditions that should avoid bodywork?

Bodywork can be very therapeutic for many conditions. Here is a list of issues or conditions that should avoid getting bodywork:

Fever, cold, or flu

Sunburn

Blood clots

Pitting edema

Active Shingles Outbreaks or any other contagious conditions

Acute injuries (with Doctor's note okay)

Uncontrolled/unmedicated Hypertension

Certain hearth conditions

Cancer (with Doctor's note okay)

Recent tattoo work (must wait 5 weeks)

Vaccines (must wait 2 weeks, if fever presents after, must wait 3 weeks)

Some conditions such as varicose veins and pitting edema can be worked around, but I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone to ensure maintenance of health standards at any time.

What kind of oil or lotion do you use?

Oil can get pretty messy so I don't currently offer that as an option. I use an organic and vegan massage lotion. It is the cleanest lotion I have found and it does not leave a residue when it absorbs. If you would like to order a bottle of your own for home use you may find products here

What should I do before, during and after the session?

Before: Abstain from drinking alcohol at least 24 hours prior and from Canibus at least 6 hours prior so you are present, well hydrated, and your nervous system is able to accurately give you feedback during the session.

Also, eating right before a session may result in getting sick so  make sure to eat within 2-3 hours prior to your session so your blood sugar levels don't get too low which may result in getting dizzy, passing out, or falling down after the session.

During: We will spend the first few minutes discussing goals for the session and the long-term as well as go over any self-care, stretching or ergonomics related guidance. Once our time is done I will step out to wash my hands and you can get undressed with privacy.

After: I will step out to wash my hands again, and get you water while you get dressed. Once you are dressed, open the door where I will be waiting for you on the other side.

We may go back over stretching or ergonomics activities again, and I will write down any resources discussed during the session before making future appointments and processing payment.

It is a very good idea to walk around the block before driving and have a snack so that you can fully integrate back into your body before continuing your day. Also continue drinking water or you run the risk of getting sick from the lymphatic stimulation during the session.

How will I feel after a Neuromuscular Therapy session?

There are a variety of different ways you can feel. Most people feel physically drained after a session like they would after an intense workout, others have big emotional releases which may temporarily create feelings of euphoria or sadness. Everyone is different but the ideal time to get this type of bodywork is at the end of the week when you have nothing else scheduled for the rest of the day, ideally for a day or two after to give yourself space to rest and reflect. Trauma or emotions can release during the session that you've held onto since childhood so it is very important to give yourself grace for whatever shows up after the session.

If you dont drink enough water before or after a session your body may feel run down or tired longer than a day. Depending on the techniques used and how stuck the tissues were you may occasionally experience bruising. This is normal with NMT and a good sign that deep trigger points have released and good progress is happening to get your body realigned. Just continue drinking water and massage the area to facilitate faster healing.

How often should I get Neuromuscular Therapy sessions?

NMT is a type of massage that focuses on how the tonicity of the muscles and connective tissue relate to the structure of the body as a whole. In the cases of acute injury or injury rehabilitation, once a week can be suitable but in most cases once or twice a month is ideal as deep bodywork can cause the body to become overwhelmed or cause emotional releases that can be disruptive to daily life balance and if you are not ready, or eat a lot of processed foods it can be difficult to navigate.

Do I need to take my clothes off for sessions or can I leave them on?

Ideally, all clothing and jewelry will be removed before each session. You will remain draped at all times but thongs are okay if you are uncomfortable with removing everything. Underwear generally gets in the way of working with the connective tissues in the glutes and hips.

Additionally, there are some people who would prefer not to take off any clothes during sessions, and that is okay too. I am trained in Sports Massage and can default to those techniques in the event someone wishes to remain clothed. Just wear comfortable gym clothes for those sessions.

Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation in which the subconscious mind is extraordinarily receptive to positive thoughts and suggestions. Through hypnosis, your behavior can be modified to benefit you by replacing the old beliefs or behaviors that you no longer need or want with the new ones you desire. Each of us naturally enters hypnosis several times every day while watching TV, when overwhelmed by the beauty of nature, or a new romance, or even while driving long distances.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is defined as the use of hypnosis as a therapeutic technique.  Hypnotherapy is NOT Psychotherapy and should not be treated as such. Some issues may require a psychological or medical referral before we begin working with each other.

Where did you get your Hypnotherapy training?

I obtained my certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy from the Hypnosis Motivation Institute, a nationally Accredidted College of Hypnotherapy in Los Angeles, California.

I am a member of the American Hypnosis Association and the Hypnotherapist’s Union Local 472 – HU472 which regulates Hypnotherapy Certifications.

How long are Hypnotherapy sessions?

60-minute and 90-minute sessions are offered for Clinical Hypnotherapy. All first-time client sessions will be 90 minutes, and some people have a hard time staying on track, especially in the beginning. We will work together to establish future session lengths which will be determined by the client's individual needs and budget.

How long should I plan to be in Hypnotherapy?

Some issues can be resolved in as little as three sessions. Others may need support for up to six months to a year or longer. For example, longer durations are better for ensuring healthy habits and lifestyle changes stick. Science has shown that even though habits only take 21 days to form neural pathways in the brain, it can take up to two years before the behavior becomes part of your identity.

How often should I get Hypnotherapy sessions?

That depends mostly on your budget and goals, and how well you're able to stay on track. In the beginning, weekly sessions may make the most sense. Ideally, you would only need weekly support for 6-10 weeks, and after that, we could move to biweekly or monthly sessions for maintenance.
